Finding Illegal Wildlife Hidden In Plain Sight

Automated Shipment Forensics (ASF) will help port inspectors find illegal trade hidden in plain sight. ASF uses computer-vision to convert paper copies of shipping declarations and invoices into a digital format which is saved to a background server that conducts real time forensic analyses on shipment information. ASF technology will be linked to an adaptive background database to detect the presence of illegal species and determine a pattern-matched probability assessment of illegal trade. Data on species and ports can be displayed on publicly available web sites. This work began from our work to understand the trade in Marine Aquarium Tropical Fish.
